| Oyasin: a Lakota word pronounced oh-yah-see which means "a burning desire to know or to learn" The Oyasin Community School is a nature-based school where we run programs that guide youth towards building knowledge of place and a sense of stewardship for nature, community, and self. With nature as our backdrop we seek to inspire and facilitate experiences, awakenings, and creativity in the individual. Instructors act as mentors and guides using subtle teaching tools like cultural facilitation, questioning, storytelling, observation, and role modeling. It is our goal to awaken and foster curiosity, passion for learning and life, caring and helpfulness, creativity, and gratitude... all which combine to bring out the best of who we are and our greatest potential. Whenever possible our programs are run outdoors in a natural setting where an individual will inherently develop leadership qualities such as humility, quickness, teamwork, and adaptation. _______________________________________________________________________ |
