Seeking Year Long Intern and Summer Intern
Are you 18-26 and eager to make a difference in the world and in the lives of the next generation?
Do you want to learn real wilderness skills and know how to teach others?
We are seeking an energetic young person who would love to go deeper with connection to nature, others, and self. Learn wilderness skills including fire skills, medicinal plants, edible plants, wildlife tracking, naturalist skills, and the art of mentoring. Being good with kids and excited to work with kids is a must as we need this person to assist with our youth programs.
Our unique approach to nature-connection is based on experiential learning engaging all the senses, the body, and the imagination. We strive to get kids deeply curious and super excited about the wilderness. Through wilderness survival, natural crafts, creative mentoring, and deep exploration of nature we build teamwork, compassion, respect (for nature, others, and self), and a sense of adventure and healthy risk-taking.

Summer Intern
Intern Fee: there is no fee or compensation for this Internship! We are mentoring you and you are assisting us. However, if you want to pursue it you could end up as a paid instructor on our team within 6 months. We can discuss this with you further.

Preferred Skills for our Intern:
- Basic outdoor camping skills are a good start
- Really there are no skills necessary. We prefer this person has the attitude mentioned below and you will go far within our organization and in life.

What you will learn:
- Wilderness Survival Skills: making everything from the land (shelter, fire, water, food)
- Medicinal Plants
- Edible Wild Plants
- Wildlife Tracking Skills
- Wilderness Games!
- The Art of Mentoring (observing people and body language, the art of questioning, storytelling, timing, framing activities, listening)
- How to activate your senses, mind, and body and be a full, fun, grounded, and playful human being!
What does the internship look like?
Year Long Intern
- You will meet with WNP staff twice per month for outings where you will learn cool skills.
- The intern must be available to attend at least 4 youth programs each month. This is where a lot of hands-on, real-time learning will take place. (see our youth programs web page)
- 4 hours per month assisting with stewardship projects on our land
Summer Intern
- Attend our summer camps where much of the hands-on, real-time learning takes place. (see camp schedule for details).
- You will meet before and after camp days to debrief and process the camp days, and create new ideas and activities together. You also learn about planning deeply connective experiences for kids in nature.
- Camp on our property and enjoy the timelessness and beauty of Indiana's summer and learn about native land stewardship through caretaking projects.
