What is The Wild Nature Project?
W.N.P. began in 2003 as Owl Creek Programs and was founded by Kevin Glenn, a native of
Bloomington. We are an educational organization that uses naturalist skills, wilderness
survival skills, and animal tracking to bring people into a closer connection with the natural
world. Our approach to teaching draws upon our understanding of indigenous ways, studies in
brain science, and our own careful observation and passion for finding creative ways to inspire
people to do things they've never done before and to discover the natural world.
Our unique approach to nature-connection has been called "
cultural mentoring" as we
intentionally facilitate a dynamic
culture of awareness around our programs. Some of the ways
we accomplish this is through games, the art of questioning, stories, sensory awareness, a
team of instructors working together, and allowing participants to add their voice. However, to
really understand cultural mentoring it can take years of study and practice.
Along with the topics listed, our programs also cultivate sensory awareness, gratitude,
playfulness, nature-connection, teamwork, humor, and respect (of self, others, nature).
